Michael D. Robinson collection, 1907-1944.

One letter and twelve picture postcards comprise this collection. The letter, written by William Weeks Hall and dated 18 November 1943, was sent to John F. Robinson. Hall praises the job the military is doing during the war (presumably World War II) and the country's gratitude toward the soldiers. He makes reference to a "rivalry" between farmers and industries in the United States, and also comments on the health of mutual acquaintances. The postcards depict New Orleans, Baton Rouge and LSU campus scenes or buildings and date from the early 1900s and the 1940s. A 1907 postcard shows North Boulevard, and one dated 1909 is entitled "Annexes of the Louisiana State University." The 1940s groups includes two depicting the new Louisiana State Capitol building in Baton Rouge, with a third showing a view of the grounds in front of the capitol. LSU scenes include the Huey P. Long swimming pool, the Agricultural Center, now "Cow Palace," the French House, and an overall view of campus from Highland Road. Additional scenes include the exterior of the combination post office and court house in downtown Baton Rouge, the New Charity Hospital in New Orleans, La., and the interior of the "Blue Room" of the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans (now known as the Fairmont Hotel New Orleans).
